Ten years ago, I embarked on a life-changing journey, moving from Italy to San Francisco with my young children. Adapting to a new country and missing the closeness of family, I turned to our kitchen as a sanctuary. It was here that I reconnected with the culinary heritage handed down by my grandmother, Margherita. On a day like any other, while waiting for my children to come home from school, a cherished memory inspired me: my grandmother's chocolate salami. This special treat, made without any meat, blending cocoa and cookies, was a staple of my childhood. Recreating it for my children brought a piece of our Sicilian heritage into our new home. As friendships formed and our house filled with laughter, I introduced this unique dessert to our guests, enjoying their astonished reactions upon learning that what looked like salami was actually a rich, sweet confection.
